About

Zora Hale is a 43-year-old American soul-jazz singer from the South Side of Chicago. Her deep voice, brushed with a faint grain of blues, carries both the softness of confidences and the power of emotions long held back.

She grew up in a family where music accompanied every moment of life. Her mother sang in a neighbourhood choir while her father collected blues, gospel and rhythm and blues records. Zora learned early on that great songs are not only about love: they also tell of waiting, longing, faithfulness and the way we rise again.

At seventeen she began performing in small Chicago venues. She then became a backing and session vocalist, spending nearly twenty years supporting other artists. Musicians immediately recognised her tone and presence, but Zora deliberately stayed in the background, more interested in the truth of a performance than in fame.

As she approached forty, however, she felt the need to carry more than other people’s stories. The songs of “Caro’s loves” gave her that space. She performs them as fragments of a single emotional life: first impulses, promises, silent wounds, unexpected returns and that rare moment when you finally understand who you want to stay with.

On stage, Zora says little. She lets silences, breaths and the inflections of her voice tell what words cannot. Her elegance is natural, her strength never erases her vulnerability. She does not sing of perfect love, but of the love that remains once the illusions are gone.
